in the 90s there weren't "competitions" like we have today. i agree, there was more rawness and fire in the battles in the 90s cause people were doing it for the love of the dance. not for the opportunity to win
$30 000, but is that opportunity a bad thing? and just because it exists and those battles aren't the same, does that mean that there are no longer the type of jams and events that create the right atmosphere for the same rawness and fire

CIrcle Kingz is one example i would use.
