Singapore Bboy History

A lot of my information I think is incomplete, or even wrong, so feel free to post up corrections about time, event, people, places, spelling.......

Lets discuss and record the history of the Lion City. Please comment, add and critique!

Important Locations - Far East Plaza
FEP is a shopping mall in downtown Singapore that was the centre for Hip Hop in the 90s, and I think, still today too. Old school cats told me they used to practice around the building, even on the roof.

Important Locations - Esplanade Underpass
The Esplanade underpass in City Hall became a place to practice and train sometime in 2000 I think, I may be wrong. To this day, it is the centre for practice for a lot of different crews, there are even other style dancers practicing there.

Important Locations - Orchard MRT station
This place was a jam session for a while in the early 2000s, I think Definition Crew practiced there.

Major Bboy Events in Singapore

Floor Skillz 2003-2006
The legendary 3:3 event that helped shape bboy culture in SG and had the first internationals come down to battle. Organized by Li Feng, a skater.

Radikal Forze Anniversary Jams
Since 2008, RF has had a major party to celebrate its anniversary. A lot of Bboys from around Asia and Australia come to participate.

Step It Up
Singapore's first bboy jam made by Inertia Crew. Reppin hard annually since 2005.

Interschool Floor Skillz
Organized by Bboy Larry of Natasha Studios, IFS has the rule that only bboys within the same school can compete with each other, opening up minds and new friendships and affiliations around Singapore.

Mid 90s
There was a popper named Jude, who I still see dancing at Butter Factory sometimes. He was the first popping dancer I met in SG, this was back in 99/00. There was someone named "Hatta" I think, who was influential at the time.

From my limited knowledge as an expat Singaporean, I know that there were two large crews in Singapore in the mid 1990s - Transformers Crew and Lion City Rockers (possibly, Lion City Rawkus). They were made up of exclusively Malay people I think.

Late 90s
Radikal Forze was named by DJ Andrew Chow who plays at Zouk nightclub in Singapore.
Fuyo Crew was formed, FTC as well. (possibly early 2000s?)

Early 2000s

Late 2000s

Esplanade Underpass was 'founded' in late 2002, by two crews Faternity Stylers and FUYO (then known as Unite Forze), prior to the opening of Esplanade Theatres.

Definition Crew was known as Soul Reaction Crew back in 2002, instead of 2000 at Orchard MRT (outside Popular Bookstore and the Coke vending machine).

Floor Skillz was 1st known as Anchor Beer Floor Skillz 3v3, held within Orchard Cineleisure complex in 2003 March. Following years was as follow:
2003: Orchard Cineleisure (inside)
2004: Takashimaya Ngee Ann City (outside)
2005: Plaza Singapura Atrium (Dhoby Ghaut MRT exit)
2006: Orchard Cineleisure (outside)
2007: Orchard Cineleisure (outside)

Inter-School Floorskillz was changed to FUYO Inter-School in 2008, after Floorskillz International stopped.

Late-90s had a crew named Rock Da True Skool, with mainly chinese bboys and bgirl; Robert, Michael, Ken, Elaine etc.

FUYO was named by Ben Koh aka PSYK in 2002, but was previously formed in 2000 as AVRALBJ crew.

FTC was previously known as GC in late 2003, but changed its name to FTC in mid 2004.

Can anyone remember the winners and runner ups of Floor Skillz from 2003-2006? We should post that information up here to remember it.
