one of the crews I actually got to cypher with in the PI was Manilla Battle Crew. I heard they are one of the pioneering bboy crews there. I could be wrong but I'm gonna assume Fil-Am bboys from like Cali went back home and showed them some breakin or there was influence from surrounding Asian countries. Manilla Battle Crew reminded me a lot of Japanese breakers for some reason.

Bboy History in Iloilo City, Philippines

zup guys.. im bboy oyen from Iloilo City, Philippines.

our bboy history began with Francis Rey Lauron (not bboying anymore)

my school mate in high school. our school had this special program for the arts and francis was a dance major, in his 4th year in year 2000, he conducted a study about bboying as a requirement for graduation or a thesis. so he began researching everything about hip-hop and bboying, and thru his research we gain a li'l bit of bboy history, and we started bboying. but in those early years we haven't understood a deep meaning what bboying is.. coz nobody here in iloilo really know what hiphop is all about. there are dancers and call them selves hiphop dancers but didn't understand what hiphop is. no one is giving bboy lessons to us but the internet. back in the days there were no youtube nor video streaming sites bout bboying, we download videos thru sites like bboys.com and style2ouf.com and many more.. self studied basic moves with very less resources. but all of us stared in powermoves and end up today as style heads.. hehe

then we formed a crew, theres like 9 of us. Francis, VJ, Harold, Oyen, Chloe, Israel, Richard, Tyrone and Cleomel

we temporarily named our crew waseda breakers coz we haven't got any name yet.
but we got known for waseda breakers because we joined a competition and we won 3rd place.. hehe
added up some members, in year 2004.. Ponce, Heman, Kyle, Godwin.. some not mentioned coz they've been inactive in bboying....
time cam that me and israel thought bout makin' our crew name to Was Seen Dancin' Crew.

now some of our crew members build up a crew.. King's Crew, Tyrone, Chloe and Richard. and some also left bboying.

the only active bboys left in our crew was me, israel, heman, ponce, kyle and godwin.

thats a li'l summary of our bboy history here.. thanks for reading!

thanks to Romeo Navarro for sharing his time and knowledge to us even just for a short while.. but hella dope!

thanks to all the bboys! for inspiring us! through youtube! hahah!

we wish to know more and more knowledge buot bboying!

Thanks! GOD BLESS!!!

peace!

hey oyen, whats up brother?
thank you for that post you made earlier. its good to learn about dancing back in the homeland.
i really want to come back and reach out to the scene. when i was there back in april 2008 the only bboys i saw were at some clubs, and even yet, they werent really rockin' if you know what i mean. back then at the time i was already into foundation and i had learned a lot about what bboying is really about. of course through time my knowledge grew about bboying.
i think maybe in january i will make a short trip back to the philippines, but mainly will be in quezon city manila i think. maybe we can get together and talk a little more.

Well Im not sure of the total history of bboying in the PI but my uncle knew about it already back in the late 80's early 90's...He told me he use to pop a lil and his friends use to try to break, I'm not sure how they learned it(probly through movies). But im not really to sure about the root or current history of bboying in the PI since practically my whole extended family moved to the states since 92.
