OMG ok just got back from Battle of the Year 2011. I flew all the way from Vancouver Canada to Montpelier and spent over a thousand dollars just to go so what did i think? I fucking loved it, it was amazing and it was a pretty historic event, first all non korean top 4 for 10 years, first non korean final in 9 years and first USA top 4 finish in 9 years ya this one will be one to remember.
But lets get to more specifics. Host were good yes they mostly spoke french but whatever i didnt care much, they were really energetic and had great chemistry with each other and that kinda help them get me hype even if i didnt know what they were saying.
Shows, Maximum was my favorite and i was really sad that they didnt make the top 4 but i understand why it was basically their same show for boty 2010 korea so no harm done, brazil was hype and was really entertaining to watch, ruff 'n' x had a great show with very few members, Vagabond was super hype and the crowd really made this show but they also added alot to there show from r16 so it was really great,TPEC show was a real a surprise, a friend of myn that came with me from canada is Taiwanese and she was so proud of her boys they put on a hell of a show,
Now we come to USA and Battle Born, only word i can say about this show and its gonna be a heated discussion for many years but for me it was WOW. In every sense of the word this show was WOW it was so different to the show USA usually puts out and nothing i would have expected from Battle Born, it was clean calculated and no usual funk tracks but rather a smooth techno trance them it was just really interesting. I was awestruck and couldn't even cheer the first half of the show because i was so memorized. Personally i dont think should have made the top 4 because it kinda petered out by the end but to anyone that says the judging was fixed because of Poe One SHUT THE FUCK UP because they placed 3rd which means that more than one judge liked their show.
To finish up Nine States b-boyz had the most hype show the crowd really aite it up it was nuts and they defiantly deserved top 4. Jinjo crew well they had the exact same show from r16, it was great but nothing new at least vagabonds added shit. I also really like kosher flavas message to their show and Belgiums Hoochen Crew was really funny and entertaining.
The battles first up was Nine States B-boyz (japan) vs Battle Born (USA). The crowd booed the fuck out of Battle Born but they kinda ran with it playing up the bad guy role and you could defiantly tell this event meant alot to them because they were hype the entire battle. As for the battle itself at first i though Nine States had the upper hand, Battle Born was using to many routines and Nine states was getting them with their solos. But eventually Battle born got into their solos and thats when the battle really turned their way, Japan crashed one to many times and battle born came out the victor fair decision.
Second battle Vagabonds (France) Vs TPEC (Taiwan). This one was interesting in that the fact that one failed run from TPEC probably ruined their chances of getting into the final. The battle itself was pretty close but Vagabonds was clean and on point with no sloppiness easly came out the victor.
THE FINAL

Battle Born (USA) Vs Vagabonds (France). When they announced i thought this battle was going to be insane. With the way french crews battle all up in your face and with the US battle mentality i honestly thought this battle was gonna end in a fist fight. But surprisingly it was pretty tame with both crews being decently respect to one another. Battle born started off with a crash in the first solo but vagabonds countered with their own a few rounds later in a routine though it was difficult to see unless you were looking for it. Honestly for me up until the last 3 minuets if there was no crowd in the arena cheering vagabonds for anything they did and giving props to Battle Born for anything even if it was dope, this battle would have come across as really 50/50. Only in the last few minuets did battle born have a few runs that didnt really go anywhere and Vagabonds capitalized on that thus getting the win.
I honestly had a great time and wanna go back so for me this gets a 5 out of 5. It was different with new crews making the top 4, it had really gotten a bit stale with everyone basically knowing the top 4 before the event was even held. But i know the internet trolls are just gonna devour this event for no reason and to that i say FUCK YOU, give it 10 years and this show will become legend i GUARANTEE IT!
P.S. I never new that handhops have suddenly become all the rage today, every single crews show had one and japans had like 3 solos of them lol. I dont know just something i thought was really weird, lay off the hand hops guys they get old fast.
P.P.S It was really great when the crowd just started having fun with itself and just did the Mexican wave like 20 times in a row. They tried to stop us so many times but we just kept going, turn off the lights no big deal whip out the cellphones and we made our own light it was hilarious and one of the fun nest parts of the event.
