You guys ever heard of this upstart named Teknyc? How about Cloud? I'd have to think someone in the Skill Methodz camp took a shine to some of that capoeira thing at some point. Screw it, try an endless list of Florida bboys. Then you best believe half of California dabbled at some point too.

I know the first people I saw bboying again in 1990 were dabbling in capoeira. I credit the capoeira influence during that period with the drunken style-power moves-landing on your face trend. That's how I remember it.

when i first started bboying i got watched cloud because he did alot of capoeira moves. but thats the thing i know tons of bboys who can do a few moves the flashier ones but not the footwork and ground work...like hell do knock does those 5 raizes in a row and websters but nothing else.

alot of people dabble in it..but im more interested in people more serious about the art..like possibly former or current capoeirists.

kumi: koolskee said his name was sebastian de perpignan i couldnt find that guy.

Hell if I know who has formal training, but I think that's the question you're really trying to ask. I'd rather not know, personally, because most of the influence was probably from half assed dabbling rather then devoted training. In other words, people copy Ruen, or Cloud, and that's about as deep as it gets.

I'm talking about CLoud's floor specifically though. Transitions, rolls, body sweeps (as opposed to leg sweeps) plus wind ups, changing directions, distribution of weight forward. Look at how someone like Teknyc does all that as an evolving unpredictable bboy, and then compare him to El Nino, who by description does all that same thing move wise, but he looks different, like a straight up bboy instead.

You could also see it in some NYCB's transition but was it consciously influenced, or did they just take their cues from other bboys who studied gymanstics and other arts derived from various world influences?

When did it come to the States? Was it available for classes before the 90's?

Yo. I'm talking about Sébastien Ramirez. You can check the BCone Qualifier in France 2007. He won that. He's all about smooth flows...coming from a capoeira background.

capoeira came to the states in the 70's.

none of clouds floor stuff look capoeira influenced...he was just really different and unique but i cant see his floor stuff being influenced by the mrtial art.
