this is why o.g.s are so important to this culture.the younger bboys and bgirls need to hear a differnt perspectives.(beacause not eveyone has the same perspective)it sounds like angry old men but they do remember what they hear and one day it clicks.
eveytime i think these kids in the game are just like the douche bags i hate i get to talk to some and are surprised at how they respond to some history or any life lesson.kids want to learn some times the lesson is hard to teach.

All along I've been on this forum just making threads and reading threads, but I have never made a post, this thread is mad inspiring and really said what I personally felt about life, to the extend that I thought that I was just jealous of all the famous people, be it in bboy or other aspects of life or entertainment.

I'm not saying I don't envy them at all, but I guess life is unfair, and all of us should cherish what we have now, instead of complaining of what we don't have, and instead of complaining all day we should put in more effort into what we do.

I grew up in a period when the internet was just being born. Let's say back in the early 90s, you wanted to know how big the earth is. Until about the middle of high school, if you wanted to know something and you weren't near the source of that information, you had to look it up in an encyclopedia. Not many people owned encyclopedias, so you probably had to go to the library. That's a solid 15-30 minute car ride to get to the library and then probably a solid 10-15 minutes of searching until you found the information, then there's the car ride back! 75 minutes just to find out how big the earth is! That was normal! Then just think if you wondered this after the library was already closed. An entire day's wait to learn a simple fact! The think about if you might be looking at information that changes frequently, like a world record. You might have to wait months for them to print a new book to know you're getting accurate information! For literally hundreds of years this is how it was, and everyone did just fine.

What if you want to know how big the Earth is today? I pull out my phone, search Google, and I have an exact measurement from a well established scientific group. Under 30 seconds.

A generation of people are being raised who don't think they should have to wait to know something. Experience is becoming a scarce commodity. Discipline is becoming a scarce commodity. I've got friends who want to learn power, but don't want to develop any upper body strength because it's too hard. I know people who want to be poppers, but they get bored of practicing hitting and don't do it. Kids will have been learning bboying for a week and they'll start putting pictures of themselves in freezes as their facebook pictures.

Bboys and people in general need to learn to take their time again! If you're not winning jams in your first year, there's nothing wrong. Hell if you're not winning jams in your first ten years there's nothing wrong. Bboying shouldn't be about a destination. There should never be an end goal to dancing. It's about the love of what you're doing.

I've completely lost track of where I'm going with this, but the point is that was a really good post.

Hey this is a really good post! I just thought I'd drop my two cents on this matter. Im not nearly as old as Buddah, buttt im climbing up there as well as many as my fellow 90's bboys who are all entering their dirty thirty's.

I want to get a bit grumpy too because there are a lot of things in this scene that I realize I can't do anything about, to point that I want to bitch about it, but everybody is bitching about both sides, I realize its pointless to be one of the people that just bitch. So instead, I try to look at things from a bigger perspective. So here are some of my points:

1. Super crews VS Real Crews w/ Routines
People bitch about people not being a "Real Crew", and that they just get together to win battles. But when a REAL crew (which consists of some talented, and some less talented members) works together as a REAL crew and uses team work to be a "Super" Crew, then people bitch that they only won cuz they use routines?! WTH?


2. The mythical raw cyphers
People keep bitching about why arent bboys getting an old fashion name through ripping raw cyphers? Well, first of all, because "Raw cyphers" don't really exist. Once someone says, hey, lets go make a "raw cypher", or we were "raw cyphering" its already fake. Back in the day, there were circles, where it was an exchange, it was fun, not trying to prove something all the time, but just showing what you got. This was fun, everybody was having fun. All styles were being thrown down, and if someone was dope, everybody just knew. Now sometimes, two people in the cypher would have a similar style, and then they would "naturally" end up battling each other. That was RAW, because it was real, not forced, not trying to be raw, it just was. Now sometimes, somebody would throw down a certain style, example threads. So everybody in that circle would start throwing down their threads, until the two best threaders would eventually end up battling. Now that is a RAW cypher, because its natural. Not a bunch of people trying to throw down in a circle and prove that "they are the perfect textbook bboy".
But then again, circles and cyphers are done differrently in every place so who knows?

3. Breakin for Fame
People are always bitching about others who are trying to get their name out, or big themselves up, or push their perspectives etc. However, we all know that its not about the fame, its about the RESPECT. Respect can also be defined as Acknowledgment. Who doesn't want to be acknowledged for their style, their perspective, their wins, what they have proven, or worked so hard for? As a matter of fact, I feel people spend more time trying to dis-prove or dis-acknowledge the hard work that people are putting in. Yes ofcourse there are kids who try so hard to make a name, and get them and their crew out there, but can you blame them? While they are young, they want to make a name, and travel around the world, battling amongst the best, and possibly bring home glory, pride and honor to their home country! Is that such a bad thing? At the same time, some bboys have worked so hard and bboying is all they got! They have given their lives to their art, and to live full time as a bboy, is such a difficult thing to do! Yeah, some have to go get a job besides bboying, but we all know that the best of the best, the most respected bboys of today, all at one time or point devoted ALL THEIR TIME, EFFORT, ENERGY, BLOOD SWEAT AND TEARS to bboying and through that is what gave them the ability and chance to prove themselves to the world. I think thats a beautiful thing. And I think if someone is just faking the funk, trying to do this to just be famous, that ship doesn't last. The truth always gets revealed through time, weather someone truly loves this or just loves themselves!
I believe there are differrent types of bboys:
A) People who want fame
B) People who are famous but lets it get to their head
C) People who are famous but don't let it get to their head
D) People who gave up on being famous and are grumpy
E) People who gave up on being famous and just want to have fun now



anyway, just wanted to add my two cents although I do agree with the same concerns with Buddah, just wanted to add to the conversation.

I'm Wizz Kid from the Bronx~ Ready To Rock Crew 97' -2012 born 12-31-80 my ethnic background is Guatemalan ( Mayan Indian roots) and Jewish.

Both art and dance made me feel this high vibration of frequency called love. I later learned that this love is what bonds everything in this Universe to connect our heart and souls .

I believe that as our Sun, Earth and us move towards the big conjunction of 2012, that this frequency is getting much stronger.

With Que's words of Wizdom I understood the purpose for this B-boyz quest, and that's because change has to come soon in this world or Hip Hop will be manufactured nonsense. We need balance in Hip Hop now! B-boy'n and the rest of the elements have to take a stand for a preservation mission and not make our dance about marketing and product ,but connect as a family.
