I think we have just about cleared this subject inside out so lets move on to the next subject.........80's( probably the best time ever) 90's( my time period from 94 and up was the shit as well)and last but not least 2000's(internet took over but whomp whomp who cares lets keep it movin aight), theres no way im letting some fucking machine hold me back from what i love the most......... Did yall know that only 1-2% of the worlds population has internet access???? Meaning theres plenty of bboyz out there who probably still practice in there basements doing some new skool drunken, oragami next level shit that we all dont know about thats gonna explode very soon in our face... lets stop knocking and lets start embracing what we now have possesion of.......... Peace to the old for letting me smoke that good shit for the new.
Maaaaan one more thing i forgot to clarify. Boogie brats and others out there practically brought out something old to the game(yeah i said it OOOOLLD!!) and others thought it was new. Dont mean to knock on the boogie brats but when i see that video now i just laugh sometimes because they were practically doing almost everything storm and swiftrock were doing in the early 90's(which some of the shit they were doing was an extension of FLOAT, KWIKSTEP, KEN SWIFT and even WIGGLES where doing when thay came to NYC). They just twisted it up a bit thats all. So for Gadget to say that they were comming out with shit no one else was doing was def a misunderstanding. I remember ol'dirty bastard saying once in his track(even though he was practically a more ruggid version of flava flave from the Wu) "This aint comming out of something new.... No, this is comming out of something ooooollld and dirteeeeeeeeeyy!!!! R.I.P. ODB( though you were one crazy SOB, you def brought some funk into HIP HOP in the 90's Rappin') PEACE
i also miss going to jams and being able to tell where each bboy is originally from just by watching them dance..
each area had their own style. that NY style. Miami style. that west coast flava. texas style. on and on and on to all the other states. even for powerheads....
each area would stand out on their own and among their own hometown, bboys/bgirls had their own individual styles.
nowadays... everyone does very similar if not the same shit as eveyone else.
sigh*

personally, i think everyone on this thread is just jumpin on another band wagon, talking about how dope the 90's were etc etc, everyone nowadays is a clone etc. yo you don't like that? then break different. you love the 90's ? then get some reebok or adidias cross trainers, wack djs, dry fits and gear that don't match and hit the floor, toprock badly then crash out of your predicable freeze coming after your sloppy drop and wack "original" footwork. cause with an exception to a few crews out there, that was the majority of bboys in the 90s.
as fas as the "clones" are concerned, well there were clones in the 90s too. and when 2000 rolled around and cats were wearing makeup and masks doing some fucked up shit on their elbow tips, or standing/sitting on their hands, there were whole states of "clones" that jumped on that bandwagon too.
what i see now is that everyone reaches a standard level really really quickly (foundational footwork steps - 6, cc, 3, shuffles etc / basic power - swipes, windmills, backspin / basic freezes - baby freeze, chair freeze, w), everyone recognizes that you must be in tune with the music and be on beat and really thats a good thing. cause everyone has their basics down, everyone is speaking the same language, we're all dancing on beat you can actually compare bboy A and bboy B and see who you prefer. not A did only power but can't dance and crashed and B did only sitting on his hands type shit and tried to do some complicated sloppy threads but didnt dance plus hes wearing makeup.
sure you got a lot of bboys out there doing the same shit and not pushing the limits but thats never changed. there has always been people that follow trends and never elevate this dance. then you got cats that are just taking it to a whole new level, combining the best of the 80s 90s and last decade plus throwing their own twist on it and really pushing the limits of this dance (casper, spee-d, kevo, kid david, el nino, focus, ata, luigi, ynot, physix, menno, stripes, katsu, thesis, etc etc etc) and i tried only naming people that have really blown up in the last 5-6 years
90's was an amazing time for originality and creativity
id still rather watch footage from the 90's over today
haha i rememeber bboy.com
had a full page of moves to just READ from and help out if u were learning urself
56k modem was the only way to go then
there was no youtube
just like cros said videos and/or just hearing about moves was the only way to know
haha i had one store in a mall
that actrually sold bboy videos
and there wasnt even that many
freestyle session
boty 98 and 99
rockforce vs the family rematch
and pro am 98
everything elese was on bboy.com chat or freestyle session
crowd wise .....well i feel like everyone was just more into it
but it also can also depend on how the scene is in the area of the jam
mikeyice has tons of footage from the 90's that i totally forgot about
which is dope to see again

welll i feel that ppl are just stateing there opinon on this thread and im talkin about the way ppl battled da rawness and fire ppl brought nothin about band wagons just da way ppl thru themselves in there own creative way trends cum and go and there are just a handfull to stay out of the trend .......peace
in the 90s there weren't "competitions" like we have today. i agree, there was more rawness and fire in the battles in the 90s cause people were doing it for the love of the dance. not for the opportunity to win
$30 000, but is that opportunity a bad thing? and just because it exists and those battles aren't the same, does that mean that there are no longer the type of jams and events that create the right atmosphere for the same rawness and fire
