I remeber back in the days you could crash all day long but as long as you came with your originality and creativity you got mad love and respect. Now a days you gotta be ON point. Styles arent the same...bboys are scared to be different now, mainly cause people now consider certain styles "not bboying". Example: if boorock or rawbzilla came back in the scene 2009 without anyone knowing who they are i guarantee there will be bboys out there who would say thats not "bboying" when in reality those guys are pioneers or as what Poeone would say Laughing Rocks. Thats why that DVD is important cause it show the truth behind the originators. The scene doesnt give much love to a lot of different styles mostly cause some style dont really consist footwork, beat hitting, flava, tops, or even dress different.Thats all i gotta say. I could go on but my head hurts haha peace.
MY RESPECTS TO: LOZ, STYLELEMENTS, OSA, Ground Zero,Havikoro, Freakshow,SourPatch, Animal farm,Circle Of Fire,Full Force,SOul Control and others who stuck to there guts and did there things not giving a fuck what others thought about there styles. Peace God Bless
WORD. a lot of newcomers to this dance arent realizing that originality is one of the most important, if not the most important, aspect of bboying. without creativity, there would be no such thing as power, or freezes, tricks, etc.. in fact... what would footwork look like now if it wernt for those that think outside of the box?
and as you said... its all about being on point nowadays... i know some cats who are afraid of trying new or different shit simply because theyre afraid of being hated on or because they wanna "stay clean" and win a competition. that keeps them from progressing... and if they dont evolve as a dancer, then the following generation of bboys and bgirls will follow their footsteps and that will be a sad thing to happen..
who is considered a better bboy? one who does 6step all day clean? or someone who innovates and tries a new idea everyday but crashes often?
a lot people consider some of the newer and upcoming bboys as being original when they really arent. most cats these days think taking the same moves and doing them in a different order is considered innovative or original.

Back then you didn't wait for a jam to battle somebody. There was no build up to a battle like there is now. I'd show up to a battle and nobody would know who I was. Oh the glory days..... Then we'd shock the shit out of everybody with our shit to the point dude's would be baffled. Thats how cats did it then. AND I didn't show up to every battle and do the same moves like what 99% of the bboys do now. I'd hold back until I had new material, then show my face. You'd play yourself if you showed up to spots and did the same combos everytime.
Back then if i saw you at the club or any spot, you'd get it. Win, lose or draw, it was on. Its so TRUE if another crew was in your territory you were guaranteed to draw blood. Back then you had battles in the club, in a fucking park with nobody around but the two crews. There wasn't any cheerleaders to root you on. This was about 10-15 years ago when it was running wild. We didn't say, "Hey you guys, we're gonna battle you at the so and so jam." WE WEREN'T CALLING YOU OUT ON THE INTERNET.
What happened? "Technology stole the soul."
And there wasn't no fucking time limits. You go until you ran out of breath or moves. Now if a cat couldn't hold his own you'd most likely brush him off. Now cats are trying to battle anything that fucking moves too! You knew when to test yourself. If you didn't have it, you wouldn't jump in the cypher either!!! You'd get clowned if you couldn't rock as hard as the rest of the cats in the circle. Cats would scold you viciously if you fucked up the vibe!
Cat's have accepted the state in which it's in now. I know i'm on a tangent but JESUS, when did you have a solo battle of two dudes who have similar styles??? Fuck me! That is the most corniest shit that was ever implemented into the scene/jams. You battle a cat on GP, not on some we have the most airflares in the planet so lets battle. That kills a bboys growth. Put him up against a dude with his own style and let them go at it. The loser would know exactly why he lost or got burned then would try and redeem himself come next time. Oh and the same old fucking songs over and over kill me and probably a handful of dancers. You'd dance based solely on the feeling not because you KNOW THE SONG BY FUCKING HEART! "HEY, I KNOW THIS SONG AND HAVE A ROUTINE THAT GOES WITH IT, YAY, NOW IT'S TIME TO HIT MY FREEEEEZE TO THISSSSS PART OF THE SONG OR HERE COMES THE SNARE ANDDDDD BOO-YAH, FREEZE." CHEESY TO THE 10TH DEGREE! If it was hip hop, we danced. If it was funk, we danced. If it was breaks, we danced. If it was electro, we danced. There wasn't anybody complaining about what song was on. The scene is so fucking spoiled. Bboys clowning electro like its popping music??? Are you fucking retarded. You'd clown something that was more forward thinking then anything else to keep this shit from evolving. We would dance with the times not go back to 1971 and think were from that era. The moves don't go with the music of the past. POINT BLANK PERIOD.
If the music evolves, the scene evolves hands down.

I hate when bboys tend to thnk like this, you need to relize that the bboys you metion ealier are inspriation to newer generation. You even said it yourself.
Don't know why people like you hate on the mid and newer generations.
Besides the previously stated Youtube/Internet globalization, wack beats, and lack of ballz to be original and not give a fuck.... i think we are simply in between eras right now.
I look back and see the original wave then a slowing down almost dying out then a rebirth with the creativity and rawness of the 90's. i think we are simply in a slowing period. i think during the rebirth everyone was bboying 100% even if it wasn't the best, they were givin it their all. right now 80% of the bboyz out there (if not more) are arguably better all around bboyz but they are puttin in a half ass effort and it shows!
you can hit a beat but u got no energy behind it. you can do 45208 airflares but it looks FUCKIN ROBOTIC!!
simply put GO HARD OR GO HOME!!
bboys have stopped challenging themselves. yea you are beating your opponent but you aren't bboyin to your full potential. bboys nowadays are only doing just enuff to get a win...

I don't wanna hate, but i remember when i first started, and i use to watch these videos, it seem like every single bboy was doing the same moves, rounds, routines, etc, in every single battle for like 4 years... I use to hate that shit. If i went to a jam, did my moves, i wouldn't go to another jam till i improved and had new shit.
I'll give an example, i remember i use to hate it when enerjetik was a in a video (not hating on him as a person), but i'd see him in Freestylesession, then Pro Am doing the same round, then a summit video with the same round, then another... 3 years later, i'll pick up a vid, and cat still doing the same rounds. I remember there was a period where Iron Monkey was the same way. But he corrected himself and came back with new shit.
here in texas there are alot of bboys that keep the original flava, but all these new cats watch youtube videos, hit the floor and just want to fly without wings.
I know that in order to make a cake, you must have eggs, and alot of new bboys out there dont have eggs but want the cake.
If you have the mind set to have stlye like born n casper, you will end up with originality in the end.
If you have the mind set to be power heavy like Kaku and KYS, you will end up with originality in the end also.

wow this is the best post iv read.. and yes its true,, i started breaking in a time when bboying was being created in africa,, we had no internet or media, so at taht time it was as if we were creating the bboying for ourselves,, sometimes we would here stories formt he states, or meet people that had seen stuff overseas and so we had kinda a story to try follow up and try innovate a counter bboy tactic to.. back then it was so dope,, it took me 2 yrs of breaking till i saw sum1 do a flare,, i had only heard about it liek a myth,, airflares were like an urban tale,, i heard about it and couldnt put the words to a picture, till the first time i saw it on a run dmc VS jason nevins video,, this was when media was finally liberal in S.A and mtv sorta came about..
when i started it was as if we had created bboying,, then the media and internet exploded and wow the scene grew fast,.. today the kdis learn the stuff off the net so quick,, and the whole form of bboying at the park, jamming at the party and battling outisde the highschools has been lost forever,, gusy are now praticing routines in the mirror, snatching styles and flows off the net,, making up their own name over night.. my bboy name grew on me after years of bboying on the floor,, being at every cypher.. today kids cant even windmill right and they like got their lil bboy names and lil outfit n shit.. hahah,, we used to break in our bare feet on the road in shorts , till we saw the real cats doing it,, such as circle of fire, killa bees, wasada breakers, and after a few years ofcourse the korean flood of skill which started with expression crew.. yeah it was awesome..
the scene is fukd up a bit,, but we cannot stop change,, we should just stay true to our hearts and break the way we know is real,, fuk cares if we lose the battle to some loser doing chair routines out his lil booklet with written flows,, fuk it the real bboys know who is tight,, and its not the cats that win bcOne!!! lol..
peace to all,, but props and respect to the true heads you know who you are and i know too,, enuff said right

i am gonna have to agree with you on this statement bcuz i seen this whole picture from the start when
it wuz first coming back in 1992. the difference i see is there is alot of moves out there but the final move
looks the same somebody always grabbing the back of there foot and ''CRASHING" i even notice the dance
element has slow down "ALOT" i remember the come back wave around 2002 when everybody would dance first 30 seconds of the song to show they could dance..today it looks like it went back to 1998 nobody cares
again dancing is a art just like you spend time into perfecting the power moves perfect the "TOP ROCKS" i see cats hitting the beat but it's copying your favorite b-boy not doing you.. alot pushing and trash talking going on too in battles, look at most of the clips dissrespect is popular let the dude do his round with out calling him a "FAGGOT" that's the difference in the scene today...
