First of all thx Ness. This is a dope thread. Its inspiring to hear peoples stories and the way people learn things.
I started dancing as a kid who wanted to go to a school dance. But i was mad shy. So i asked mom for advise and it turned out that she was a hell of a dancer in her youth, so she was my first teacher.
Thx Mom.
I started getting down
1983 my inspirations was Dynamic Rockers, The Rock Steady Crew, New York City Breakers, Magnificent Force. All this greate crews shaped me and inspired me at first.
Ca 1985 i saw the best breaker i ever seen at the time, his name was KID JAM. This guy was the one who told me what it was all about style, swagger, Finess and most important originality.
Around the same time i saw a clip of Paris City Breakers. That changed me a lot cause now i saw what Kid Jam was talking about. Originality. But i also saw a different flow. That i carry wilth me even today.
Late 90-98 i was in a crew called Throw Down. I didnt learn anything directly from any one in this crew cause everybody was totally different from each other. But i allways got inspired by every body. Our mindset was the key.
During that time i meet Ken Swift who taught me a sweep??? (Thx Kenny till this day its the greatest thing i ever learned from anybody). I new it before but i didnt master it then. Kenny also explained rocking to me when i first meet him i think it was around 91-93. I saw rocking first time around 84 when Whodini came out with FREAKS COME OUT AT NIGHT. I allways wanted to learn what it was n how to really do it.
98 i ended up in a crew called Moves Per Minute n i meet my greatest teacher ever DJ James Leacy RIP.
James taught me the breaks n showed me how to dig music and how music can form your dancing.
James changed back the scene with his music and was a big inspiration and motivator to a lot of us.
Miss you brother. In this crew was another greate floor rocker who didnt really teach me anything but he allways inspired me whit his raw approach. Jam One trully one of skandnavias finest.
Only one who really taught me air moves is Kwik Step. Pz brother.
Ghost Crew came thru about 5 years ago n everybody in that crew has learned me a lot about life n our way and approach to this dance. Flaco, Marre, Ata, Parkes, Diaz, Lucky, Dark Marc, IMA, Jam One, T-Flow, Focus, Endre.
My brothers allways Ness n Poe.
Some of my other inspirations that gave a brother some. Rocking on top or floor rocking.Knowledge n wisdom.
Bam, Mr Loose, Clarky, Nako, Wary, Phantum, Elmo, Wary, Trac 2, Wiggles, Go Go, Mr Wave. Icy Ice, Bom 5. K-Mel (he destroyed me in a battle. My best lesson ever).
Europe
Karim, Laos, Evo, Archie, Brian, Swift Rock, Next One, Rabbani.
Every battle ive been thru.
Probebly missed a lot of people. Blessings to all.
Still learning.
spirit was a wanderer, hes from down south, then spent time in nyc, then florida, then moved to la. he also was one of the flying tortillas.
his original bboy name was demon spirit, then he found his lord and savior and droped the demon for obvious reasons.
from what poe1 told me, spirit was the first to go out to la and tell cats stories about me, so i was shoked when i went to la and poe1 stepped to me like "yea your alien ness, spirit told us all about you"
Hey Ness,
Sprit was also my mentor as well. Wow, I feel so ashamed for not knowing these things about him and didn't know people knew of him outside of the mid-west. did you know turbo roc as well? Spirit and Turbo started the b-boyin' scene in Madison, WI and he said he met you out in NYC one time or Europe? My memory is bad. If you could drop some knowledge that would be great.
I forgot to mention one more Mentor/teacher and I feel bad that I forgot to mention him
Abe- Flex Flave
in 2006, Supernaturalz was all split up, with all its members seperated doing their own thing. I was at a point where I felt that I accomplished everything I wanted to do as an individual bboy. And since I didnt have a crew, I was considering hanging up the bboy shoes in order to put full time in the development of the judging system.
I always was cool with Abe, and I knew that there was something special about his crew, because at that time, the best members of the crew were Machine and Ajax, and when they left, a lot of people thought that the crew would come to an end. Instead they continued winning countless battles in the USA north west region
So we met again at the 2006 Bboy Unit and I told him what I was feeling about my situation which I stated above. He started putting me on a brand new tip that completely changed my view of breakin. He taught me about how to be a crew leader, and to look at breakin as a sport, where you can break smart rather than just breakin good. He put me on a whole new perspective of battling strategies, and how to win competitions using your mind as well as your talents. The secrets he gave me were so Gold, that I quickly becamse inspired to use them and expand on them, making new strategies and upgrading the ones he taught to me. When I went back to Toronto, me and Puzzles began a new chapter of Supernaturalz, bringing in bboys who we knew were loyal. Abe taught me that you can use ones talents to grow into usefull skills and weapons of battles. He also told me that he was put on by Alieness in this type of mindframe. Since that time, Supernaturalz accomplished more than we have ever done since its beginning in 1992.
Got to give a shout out to all the generals of their crew who know whatsup, Abe, Ness, Legz, Virus etc.

Actually thats not how i heard of you Ness. The First time i ever saw you on a tape was in 1995 Rock Steady Anniversary. You were breaking in the rain. And i was like who the hell is that cat. Your whole Style Was a style that i had not seen in a long time. And it was very dope to see. It reminded me a lot like Corey (Icey Ice).Which i have always told you and asked you in the past. I did not meet spirit until 1998 until we entered as the Flying Tortillas. Flo Master introduced me to Spirit. Just so you know this is how i actually found out of your existence. Now the rest is ourstory my brotha!!! I was already talking about you here in Cali since the first time i saw you get down. Peace and 1 Love.

Yo, been away from the boards for a week, and I'm stuck at work, but I gotta hit the boards on this topic. Lot of unsung heroes on my list...
Danny a.k.a. Pizza Pop, WDB-1st live and in the flesh bboy who taught me and my crew actual techinques instead of us just biting Beatstreet. A Winnipeg legend. Also taught me my 1st Locking moves. All of the Mischief Crew-My very 1st Breaking Crew. You're a fool not to mention your own peers. Boobjester, Dangerous Goods, Mischief Crew-The King of Winnipeg. So much of who I am as a dancer is because of this man. We've drifted as of late, but he will always be the Yin to my Yang. The only b-boy I truly fear, the only one I train to defeat, besides myself. All of Dangerous Goods-Winnipeg's current council of elders. Raul a.k.a. King 4everFresh-A Calgary legend, on his way to becoming a Canadian legend. So many ill concepts, and sick flow. A true Dancer's dancer. Nastic, Maximum Efficiency-When I lived in Toronto, me and Jim used to trade info and moves like a muh. Always thought of him as my Ace in T-dot. Now he's one of the deadliest in Toronto. Handlez, Maximum Efficiency-Another one of my break brothers. He and Nastic are an incredible duo, and the man's mind works in intriguing ways. Bigglez, M.E.C.-So many concepts from such an odd dude. Dave can look at your style, just look at it, and tell you exactly what you need to toss, and what to keep. Shiiiit, he even tells you you have moves YOU yourself didn't even know you had!! Piecez, M.E.C., FunkFanatics-I've chomped and flipped so much of this kid's moves it ain't even funny. I hope I hid it well enough, Mikey! Floorplay, M.E.C.-The original Golden Boy of the crew. Jim knows what I'm talking bout on this one, Mikey too. This kid was ahead of his time in Toronto. FrostFlow, Gound Illusionz-The first bboy to make me realize that 'go-downs/drops' was an art all on its own. I've had the honor of him asking me to join two of his crews. I respectfully declined, and now I'm kicking myself!!! Puzzles, Supernatz-Reminded me of the power not to give a shit what people think of you. Inspired me to seriously get back in the game mentally. He was Jesus to my Lazarus. Benzo, Bag o' Trix -Another unsung hero. This man is a walking, living battle. Glizzi, A.B.S., BTX-The Moonlight Gliding Knight. The 1st person I saw combine sick gliding techniques with b-boying. Smooth as Satan's voice. Alien Ness-Never met the man, never shook his hand, never even spoke on the phone, and don't even own his videos. And yet, I've learned so much from him. How's this possible? Has Ness ever met Buddha, Bruce Lee, or Sun Tzu? But they've taught him indeed. Mr. Wiggles, RSC, EB-Ths man is the template for me as a Hip Hop citizen. Original Boogie boy, B-boy, MC, Graph writer, he showed me the power of being 'all round'. He came to Toronto once, and at the club he rapped to us about how B-boys party danced, he was the first to say,"We dance for the GIRLS, we supposed to dance WITH GIRLS.", he spoke about how Megus was rocking 'Spiderman style'. So many gems from this dude, and he still drops 'em! All the new and upcoming B-boys of my hometown-Inspiration is education.
The list continues to grow...
Thank you all.
