I hope Dyzee Perfected this since BBoyhodown... because that night had some controversial calls. I'm not sure if I like this system. In theory it sounds good but when executed not so effective kind of like Socialism. lol no pun on the fact that dyzee comes from Canada. The thing i like about it though is the fact that we need some system of judging that could possibly taking bboying to the X-games, and possibly Olympics. And those of you guys who disagree with the whole x-games thing can go suck it because I know you guys wont be complaining when sponsors flood the scene and help fund stuff. anyways save that for another time... I would like for judges also be able to man up and prove their BS points when they know they're wrong. thats my 2 cents
I support all the work to make BBoying more transparant.. a system like this surely serves a bigger audience and their understanding of the judges choices during a battle.
But on the other hand.
The Hip Hop culture is build around gaining respect from others. That's why we are so unique. We all give judgements, some being positiv, some being negativ about others in the game. In the end all the debate and discussions make us go back to the dancefloor.
Afrikaa Bambaataa dropped " Looking for the pefect Beat"
Which in essence means you will never be done looking, once you find the perfect beat, you will find another. Our Hip Hop culture is an endless journey of looking for the perfect beats, dancemoves, lyrics ... you simply can't judge new creativity by old standards.
once you think you got it figured out, a new kid comes out and flips the script

Drewie, hows it going?
Yes the system has been perfected since. As a matter of fact, the system is nothing without propper judges. What the system is designed to do, is to make juding more transparent, so that judges are more accountable. But what has happened instead, is that instead of bboys looking to see if the judges were doing it right, they have chosen not to look at the scores but instead blame the system. Isnt it kind of Ironic. At Bboy hodown and at mostly every event, there are always contreversial calls right? Now what can any body do about it? One of the benefits of the system is that crews can acutally go back and look at the scores to see if a judge is truly being biased or not. But its up to the people battling if they want to understand the system, and see what the judges actually thought about them in the battle. Or they can say screw it, its the systems fault!
Hugo, I think your absoloutely right that hiphop is built around gaining respect from one another. But bringing battles to a more professional and mainstream level will not take that away. Its like saying that now that there is mixed martial arts, or boxing, or taikwando, then nobody will streetfight anymore. Cyphers will always be where you truly put yourself to the test to see if you can really go the distance. A system is only a first step to making bboying become something proffesional like mixed martial arts, boxing or taekwondo.

Thanks for getting back at me Dyzee. I been reading up more on the feed back of this system since my last comment and it seems your view on people blaming the system over the judges is plausible, but what can one do to correct this? how about you(Dyzee) putting the judges on blast by showing what each judge gave what. I can see this system working at bigger venues rather than smaller ones. I am a fellow bboy and an aspiring animator who would like to get into the jam throwing Business soon for the love of the dance, and maybe one day when I get a huge venue ill try out your system. I appreciate that your evolving your system and can only hope that you continue to do so, because i feel as though its not quite there yet but is headed into the right direction for success. good luck.
sorry one more question why does the point system go so high in numbers? also why doesn't the win go to the crew who won the most categories rather than over all points awarded? then if there is a tie then i think the sum of the points would then be valid in determining the winner.
Hey Drewie, im not sure what you mean when you ask why does the point system go so high in numbers? Please explain.
The winner of the battle IS NOT determined by the total score. It is determined by who wins more out of the 5 categories. In the case of a tie in number of categories won, for example, one team with foundation and originality, the other wins Dynamics and Execution, and the Battle strategy categorie is tied, then all the scores are accumulated and the Total score determines the winner.
So basically you are absoloutely correct.
