What I mean by that is people not fully versed in bboying culture looked at anyone who could do an airflare as being a representative for bboying, regardless whether that person could toprock, do floorwork or any of the other facets of bboying. The same reductionism of bboying with respect towindmills/ backspins nearly killed bboying. I remember guys doing it in gym class for extra credit.
I respect bboys like Toyz, Napalm, Hong 10, Physicx, who can do airflares with ease but only treat them as part of their arsenal. You might not see them bust out an airflare for weeks or months, but they're doing everything else that you expect from a bboy, number one being original and freestyling.
So yeah, seeing someone do airflares in slow-motion I guess is impressive, although it's been done to death already, but in some ways it seems so passe.
And actually. I would respectfully like to disagree. The airflare is not a commericalized personification of bboying. Firstly, it can't be a "personification" per se, as it would almost be using the term incorrectly because of how loosely you used it, even when read figuratively. Secondly, any bombastic move - powermoves - seems to be representative of bboying today; as such, airflare alone isn't the crux of what mainstream society views as bboying. But as stated before, you should give respect where it's due. This is, as GORILLA ROC said, an evolution in air power as Marcio is doing something different with the airflares.
And the overplayed factor of airflares does not simplify the difficulty of the airflare in any way. Regardless of the societal viewpoint of breakdancing, those who practice hard to master this technique deserve the respect they're due, even from you.
The slow motion makes it looks so gracefull and really lets the observer take in how crazy the moves actually are. Awsome vid. Lord willing one day I will be able to do similar combos.
for someone looking to learn these moves, pay attention to the subtleties:
the alignment arms, shoulder stacked over the elbow and wrist, even when he hops to a pike. the forearm or hand extends to find the ground, then lands a micro second before weight is fully set on it. every time I watch it, I notice more...
