I really hope Dyzee or someone who came up with this judging system, can explain in their perspective why the decision to change the judging system to this was done. I really, really do not see what is so wrong of testing this system. Charlie has already said it's just an experiment in progress, there is actually nothing wrong of trying new things?

One thing I've always hated in bboy battles, nowadays, is that it seems that when it's like a comp, like Top 9 vs Tip in Battle of the Year 2008, everyone was questioning and asking, "Why did Top 9 win?" They shouldn't have won! Or in Freestyle Session, when Zulu Kings won the whole competition, and everyone was making a big deal, saying "Why did they win against Gamblers? I don't understand." What this judging system does is explain why a certain crew wins, it does NOT destroy the vibe because you as the audience is going to focus on the music and the bboys either way. I feel that the main reason this system is being done in R16 this year is because it can explain why a certain crew won, through a point system.

But this is just my view. I can understand why some people would be mad, though, but I think Charlie is tryinng his best to make it clear why this system is being done.
dang that reminds me, has a legitimate version of the final fss 10th anniversary battle been released yet? (one with no bs editing and has the real sound). Its been nearly 3 years now... I dont even care about it being corrupt... I just want to watch it again!!!! actually, ALL the battles with the real sound would be nice.

if it was a judge i really look up to, i want to be judged by feeling. if it was a judge i don't really trust, i'd rather he/she be objective, and to stick to just one category i can trust him/her to be competent at judging.

Lets not let the past become the present and revert to old beef....

I'm having a bit of a hard time fully understanding how this system would work out in practicality. I know it's supposed to be encouraging dancers to be more well-rounded (thus the "five views"), but I almost feel like you could focus on being great at foundation, being original, and executing well and ignore the other two views and you could win the battle, whereas another person who might focus on doing pretty well at all 5 wouldn't win. The set of bboy2 might be more well-rounded (maybe better as a set in general), but bboy1 would still take it because he danced according to this judging system.

ex.

bboy 1
foundation: 4
originality: 4
dynamics: 0
execution: 4
strategy: 1

bboy 2
foundation: 3
originality: 3
dynamics: 4
execution: 3
strategy: 4

Doesn't it seem peculiar that bboy 1 wins just because he took those three categories in this case? Please clarify if I'm not seeing this the way the system actually works.

Hey Dazzle.

Yes you are absolutely right. Just because a bboy is more well rounded doesnt nesserily mean that he or she will win the battle just because they are more well rounded. A specialist can also win as well. Although the system does encourage bboys to be more well rounded, it also encourages specialists to go for what they have to do. If this system worked differently, such as total scores combined, then it would force bboys to have to do everything, and that is taking away the freedom to really dance the way they want to dance. I hope I was able to explain well.
Thanks
