History of Black Panthers (1968) & Huey P.Newton

The Black Panther Party (originally the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense) was an African-American revolutionary organization established to promote Black Power, and by extension self-defense for blacks. It was active in the United States from the mid-1960s into the 1970s. The Black Panther Party achieved national and international fame through their deep involvement in the Black Power movement and in US politics of the 1960s and 70s. The Black Power movement is considered to be one of the most significant social, political and cultural movements in US history.

Huey P. Newton (1942-1989) founded the Afro-American Society and was a co-founder of the Black Panther Party with Bobby Seale, serving as its minister of defense during much of the 1960s. Later he turned to community service for the poor.

at the same time there was also a black panther group in jerusalem. they started as young people protesting for there to be built a community center in jerusalem's musrara neighborhood, and with time they were practically running the neighborhood, influencing politicians and overall being a big influence on the city. the american black panthers were a great inspiration for community self empowerement groups worldwide
