Everybody focused on BATTLES - Where`s the essence?

    Hi all,

My name is Bruno, I live in Brazil and I stopped visiting bboyworld for some reasons.....

I`ll be really brief about something that bothers me a lot...

I used to be inspired by a lot of videos and different bboys around the world, watching tournaments, watching cyphers, watching bboys live, etc...

But nowadays I see that the scene changed so much, that you have so many tournaments every fucking week, and bboys are practicing only for being good for the others....

I mean, everyone has changed, everyone wants to be well rounded and to have crazy moves and to get all the beats on toprock, not to be himself, to do whatever he`s feeling or whatever the music asks, but to be better than the other...

That`s not only on tournaments... when you go out in a cypher, everyone is doing their best, throwing all their PRE-SETS with blowups, impact stuff...... and if you just DANCE whatever the music ASKS (sometimes the music doesn`t ask a 20 rounds elbowspin to a superfreeze), people look at you like you`re wasting their time and making the cypher more boring....

srsly, that`s one of the only videos that i`ve been watching lately
Prince ken swift legend mid 90's - YouTube

And I watch OVER AND OVER AND OVER, because that is what`s left of BREAKING nowadays... the dance has changed so much to a BATTLE that I feel that I don`t wanna go to jams anymore.... even DJ`s are putting fast-breaks with loops, no MUSIC anymore....

With no MUSIC there`s NO DANCE.

With too much competitions there`s no ART.

Without dance and art, there`s no breaking for me... I understand each one have fun on his way, but the breaking as I know doesn`t exist anymore.

Does anybody share about the same opinion?

Prolly not here on bboyworld, because most part of people that comes here have a different mentality/opinion and still enjoy the stuff over here. And I respect that.

    pz.

Before someone says since the beginning breaking used to be competitive and with battles, I want to refresh your memory that you didn`t had 20 competitions/month, you didn`t had 1000 videos/day on bboyworld, battles had much more about different styles (and prove your style is the best) than being well rounded, and you didn`t had to please judges or to throw everything you can in 2 sets of 30 seconds.....

Word is Born! Most B-boys who live with the essence in their dance are on a whole other frequency when it comes to breaks, their much more in tuned with the circle's vibration and know exactly how to shape sound, in other words these are the masters of breaks, these are the original's.

    Bboy Original
COLORS SPREAD LOVE, AND WE DRIPPIN WITH SWAG, BUT THIS RIGHT HERE COLORS NEVER FADE, THE GAME NEVA CHANGE ONLY THE PLAYERS, B-BOYS IN STILL MOTION.
    Peace!

Have you ever thought of writing a book? This topic has never been brought up before on this forum and I really think you have something here.

When this thread is over, can you start another thread discussing style vs power? I already have the thread title for you "Style Heads vs. Power Heads - which is better?"

why don`t u grow up and learn how to really say what you really want??

or maybe if you don`t have the balls, you can stfu, close your browser and learn some respect with your family.

And i`m really surprised About you having my mates crew on your signature, because most part of people from soul felons I met are great people, and they`re not the kind of asian kid that try to diss things on internet to auto-affirm.... Maybe if I wasn`t back on my country we could talk about it personally..... And sorry if there`s already 200 threads about it, I don`t know because I don`t spend my day here anymore talking shit to others.....

    Yes, maybe,
I mean, since I don`t live there I have no clue... I`m judging by my local scene + international videos.....

Even in cyphers you don`t have too many different styles anymore... everybody wants to be fast, get the generic beats, force expression on toprocks, do some storm footwork fundamentals and go to a small creative stuff with a blowup, and maybe get up and throw your bowl into someone`s face.

but yea, I hope you`re right about your place! That`s good to hear.

if you want to find the essense in a video on bboyworld you are already looking on things the wrong way dude.... go experience it don't expect to find it in a video

the good news is there are more people like you around..who feel the same about things... the bad news is that you have to find those people first... I suggest you search around sao paulo for people like you there must be at least 4 or 5 people more interested in dancing and flowing to the music then blowups and power. and if their not (wich i think is highly unlikely) it might be time to try a other city

i think there is some truth in this. i am not a negative person. so i do believe there are lots of places where bboying is alive and healthy. the cypher roll quite nicely. but yeah i see myself too a different approach in dancing nowadays. people dancing like they were battling all the time. it is okay i guess if it is how they feel but c'mon all the time. where is the fun in that. it's just about winning or losing then. how about giving it up for the fun of it nevermind the outcome. maybe it is out of pride people don't accept it but i do think you are right. times are changeing again, and the competional bread is rising up. but no problem on it the real heads will still stay true.

You really don't have to spend your day on BBW you just have to look at the search button and all post regarding circles and all that jumbo will pop up.

the essence of the dance to only carried on by you not others.

when ppl are hitting 20 round elbow spins does the music stop and they play magical techno power music? no the beat is still there dance to it, forget about the wack and you'll see the dopeness in others but if you are overwhelmed by this new age of bboying maybe you are influenced too much by it.

Mikey is just being real he types how he speaks and thinks, unlike most ppl on this board who will never speak their mind on here.

You live in Brazil im sure everyone in influenced by Lil G maybe you should talk to him about his breaking style

    Have a great day

Personally I really find the opposite the big competitions era to me is over. It peaked back in 09 since then alot has happened to make the world wide scene alot smaller. Most of the big competitions that happend in korea ever year ended and the only one left is R16 which is still alot smaller today then it was back in 09. Other events such as Uk champs used have alot more qualifiers around the world but now they fill up 3 spots at one event IBE. IBE itself has switched its focus from All battles All to more smaller based events like footwork battles, octagon, and cyphers which in all honesty end up being more interesting to watch then All battles All. The only really large event left is BOTY, but it only got saved because it moved to France where the truth is Big Competitions still due thrive as the country has really embraced b-boy in the way that Korea did back in the mid 2000's.

What I am personally noticing more is smaller competitions and less frequent as aposed to back in 08 when i was on this site. More 2vs2, 3vs3 heck even freestyle session has moved to this format. And i understand why in this economy its become expensive to host big events and I think the interest from the general public other than in places like France has really diminished since the korean scene slowed down at the end of the 2000's.
